Colonic transit time is the amount of time the ingested food spends in the large intestine before it is finally thrown out of the body. If the colonic time is less than normal (which means that the food does not stay for long in the large intestine), then it can cause green bowel movement.
Although green stool (light or dark) is generally the result of certain dietary factors, and is considered normal, it may also signify digestive or intestinal problems, particularly if the sighting frequency is high. Hence, it is advisable to identify the causes for the persistence of this condition.
I know that water is not food, but it can help in softening stool as well. It is recommended that you drink at least 2 liters or slightly more than eight 8 oz. glasses of water each day. Water aids in digesting our food and softening stool too. The amount of water you need to drink each day will vary as per your geographic location. If you are living in a more dry, warm area, then you should drink more water.
